A Guide to Wetsuits & Sea Temperatures during the Sardine Run

The water temperature varies between 14 & 20 degrees Celsius, we recommend a 5mm 2 piece or 7mm wetsuit, including a diving hood & booties. It is suggested that wetsuits and fins be dark in colour and that divers avoid shiny / bright / luminous items of dive gear. Dry suits are not ideal as they create drag on the surface of the water when snorkeling & are cumbersome when it comes to getting on & off the boat on a regular basis.

One can come across Sardine Run action quite unexpectedly thus it is easier to get on & off the boat quickly with snorkeling gear as the skipper needs to keep moving to stay with the action. If the bait ball is large and not moving too fast, it will then be an option to get into the water with scuba.

We have the necessary diving gear available for hire, from wetsuits, fins, masks & snorkels to BCD’s, Regulators & Dive Computers.
